Psychotherapy is a psychoanalytic treatment for children, young people and families. Child and adolescent psychotherapists treat a range of emotional and behavioural problems not easily addressed by other methods of treatment.
Therapists are trained to carefully observe a child or young person and respond to what they might be communicating through their behaviour and play. They have particular skills in putting into words the troubled feelings that children evoke in them.
They apply their framework of thinking about how to work with caregivers, and supporting other professionals who work with children and young people to ensure a deeper understanding of the service users perspective.
What areas of need can Psychotherapy help with?
How is Psychotherapy Delivered within ADO Therapy? Below we have listed the different ways the provisions are offered with our Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist within ADO Therapy:
1. 1:1 meetings/sessions of support with parents/caregivers. These sessions can be booked as one-off meetings or parents/carers can request more appointments, depending on their level of need on specific subjects which concern their CYP.
2. Conducting and providing documents with information for parents/carers on several presentations and types of symptomatology as well as diagnoses.
3. Support for parents/carers as a group. Support can also be provided to parents/carers as a group in case that is of interest to them as it is common and totally understandable for people to feel like they do not want to be on the spot and that they can open up better when they know that there are other parents/carers present who might be sharing similar struggles.
4. Regular information and support for the CYP through the staff at ADO, learning strategic tools to develop and cope when at ADO, and also within society.
5. If the individual is on board, remote sessions can be organised for 1:1 psychotherapy.
